Each year, children in the Millbrae baseball league can tryout for the city All Stars team, which then competes against the All Star teams from the other surrounding cities. This tryout is for the Pinto age group (7-8 year olds).
Bottom line - Zachary did is best and we are so proud of him, regardless of whether he makes the team or not.
Zachary is warming up with fellow team mates Dillon (in SF Giants cap to left) and Tony (not shown). Since these pictures speak for themselves, you can write in the header for each photo.
Let the tryout begin. The non-first basemen queued up in the outfield. Zachary is on the left and his teammate Tony is 5 kids to his right in the blue and white shirt. Coach Mark is standing behind Zachary. He is one of Zachary's team coaches who is also judging the tryouts. This photo was taken before Eric handed him the THICK envelope.
Zachary's first task was to field grounders at short and throw to first. Ironically, Zachary has never played short before this. Only 2 balls scooted past him and a couple he fielded perfectly. He showed that he can definitely throw the ball to first (in all honesty, he has a really good throwing arm) - nor did he overthrow to the left (which is his tendency). Other than having difficulty judging the distance of the throw, he did really good.
Now they are waiting for the other boys to finish fielding...
Here comes the slugger. He took all swings batting right. He had some good cuts and performed at his best.
Going...going...gone to the out field!!!
Lets take a break from the monotony and field the balls that other kids are hitting...
Now for the last event - outfield work. Here he had to grab line drives and pop ups. He is beginning to be able to read the balls flight path. And he even caught a few.
A couple kids told him they though he has a chance of making the team. Regardless, we are very happy for Zachary. He did his best...
